You can get Virtual Crib up and running in about 15 minutes or less as long you follow these steps. vCrib uses the following programs/components. Click one of the below to quick jump to the installation directions for that particular part:
- MySQL Application
- ODBC Connectors
- GUI Tools (Optional, but recommended)
- Virtual Crib software
- Installing the vCrib database
- Supporting applications
vCrib requires Windows Media Player 11
Initial Information
Installing MySQL Application
1. First navigate to the MySQL Download page:
2. Scroll down and click on Windows downloads:
3. Click 'Pick a Mirror' next to Windows Essentials:
4. Scroll down below boxes and click 'No thanks, take me to downloads!':
5. Select 'HTTP' next to one of the mirrors to download the actual file:
6. Save the file to a location. Once it is done downloading, click 'Open':
7. On the initial screen, click Next:
8. Click Next on the following screen:
9. Click Install on the following screen:
10. Click Next on the splash screen:
11. Click Next on the following screen:
12. Click Finish, make sure Configure Now is selected:
13. Click Next on the following screen:
14. Select Standard Configuration, select Next:
15. Click Next on the following screen:
16. Enter in the root password that you want, click Next:
17. Click Execute on the following screen:
At this point you have installed MySQL!
Installing ODBC Connectors
1. First navigate to the ODBC Connectors Download page:
2. Click on 'Windows' download midway down the page:
3. Click 'Download' next to Windows MSI Installer:
4. Click on 'Save' to save it to your hard drive:
5. Click 'Open' to run the file:
6. Click 'Next' on the initial installation screen:
7. Click 'Next' on the following screen:
8. Click 'Install':
9. Click 'Finish' on the following screen:
At this point you have downloaded and installed the ODBC Connectors!
Installing GUI Tools
1. First navigate to the GUI Tools Download page:
2. Scroll down to 'Windows Downloads' and click 'Pick a Mirror':
3. Scroll down below boxes and click 'No thanks, take me to downloads!':
4. Select 'HTTP' next to one of the listed mirrors to download the file:
5. Click 'Save' to save the file to your hard drive: (Click 'Open' once the download completes)
6. Click 'Next' on the initial installation screen:
7. Accept and click 'Next' on the following screen:
8. Click 'Next' on the following screen:
9. Click 'Next' on the following screen:
10. Click 'Install' on the next screen:
11. Click 'Next' on the following screen:
12. Click 'Next' again:
13. Click 'Finish' on the last screen:
You have now completed installing the GUI Tools!
Installing Virtual Crib software
1. First access the virtualcrib.com website:
2. Click on the Downloads link:
3. Click on the download link:
4. Click 'Save' to save the file to your hard drive:
5. Click 'Open' once the download is completed to run the install:
Did you get an error after clicking 'Open'? Check out this if so
6. Click 'Next' on the initial screen:
7. Accept the terms and click 'Next':
8. Click 'Next' on this screen:
9. Confirm the install and click 'Next':

10. Click 'Close' on the final screen to complete the install:
11. You now need to edit the vcrib initialization file. Click on Start->All Programs->My Computer (Windows XP):
12. Navigate to the vCrib location. Start by clicking on the C drive:
13. Click on 'Program Files':
14. Click on the 'vCrib' folder:
15. Right click on the vcrib.ini file and select 'Open with…':
16. Select Notepad and click 'Open':
17. This is the initialization file. You need to update a few fields to match your specific setup:
NOTE: You do not need to edit PATH. This is no longer used

18. Update the file:
19. One other note about vCrib. You need to have Windows Media Player 11 installed:
At this point all you have left to install is the vCrib database!
Installing the vCrib database
1. Open the MySQL GUI tool. Click on Start->All Programs->MySQL->MySQL Administrator:
2. Enter 'root' for the username, and the password you entered when you installed MySQL:
3. Once in the tool, click 'Restore' on the left panel:
4. Now click 'Open Backup File' on the bottom right side of the screen:
5. Navigate to the location of the vCrib database file. Usually this is located in C:\Program Files\vCrib\. Double click on the database file:
6. The file to restore box should now show the file in it:
7. Now click 'Start Restore' on the bottom right of the screen:
8. You will see the below screen once the database has completed the restore. Click 'Close':
9. Now click 'User Administration' on the left side of the screen:
10. Enter in the user name and password that you have listed in your vcrib.ini file:
11. Click on the 'Schema Privileges' tab:
12. Select the database on the left 'archon\_dbo', and click the two left arrows button:
13. You should now see this:
14. The final step is to click 'Apply Changes' on the bottom right. This saves your changes and makes the permanent:
You have successfully set up the vCrib database!
